Trainings

GET TRAINED

Sexual harassment is a crime.

We’re a nonprofit working to end harassment — in all its forms. We believe that everyone deserves the resources to respond to, prevent, and intervene in instances of harassment. We provide both customized and free anti-harassment training experiences.

We provide free trainings to the public and customized training experiences for businesses, organizations, schools, and colleges. We use any revenue earned, combined with generous donations from people like you, to accelerate efforts to end harassment and provide free trainings to the general public.

Take Action!

When enough people take action, harassers will find it harder and harder to harass. They will face consequences on the street, in their workplace, from friends and family and coworkers, and eventually they will choose to not harass at all.

Every Action Counts!

How can we take action if we witness street harassment and don’t know what to do? Herworld Africa offers free training sessions to train people on how to safely intervene.

Intervene in any way you feel comfortable with when you see sexual harassment happen.

    • If you feel uncomfortable intervening alone, call out for other bystanders to intervene with you.
    • If you are in a crowded place and see someone harassing, go and stand between the harasser and the harassed person to stop the harasser from getting access to the person being harassed.
    • Take the harasser to one side and calmly say: What you are doing is unacceptable.
    • Jump in and interrupt – tell the harasser to stop immediately.
    • Offer to go with the harassed person to make a police report and be a witness if she/he wants it.
    • Divert attention - start talking to the harasser or the harassed person, asking for directions or the time.
    • Ask if the harassed person needs help.
    • If the harasser is an employee/employer or in a closed place, report the incident to the management/security and insist that they take action against the harasser.
    • If you see someone else is intervening, support them.

    • Speak up – choose what you feel is right for you and the situation.

    • Report what happened, when and where to HarassMap here or Facebook/Twitter. Reports are anonymous.
    • Show those who have reported it that you care - read the reports on HarassMap, and express your support with just one click.
    • Talk about it – with friends, your family, colleagues, or on social media. We need to let more people understand the magnitude of the problem, and make it clear that we do not tolerate it.
    • Call people out if you hear jokes or conversations that condone sexual harassment.
    • Educate yourself about it. Our Resources is a good start.
    • Use the free services that exist – psychological counseling and legal advice for example. Here is a list.
    • Report it to the police. Sexual harassment is a crime. Contact us for more advise on this or call us on +256-784-608618
    • Use social media to reach out to as many people as possible - follow us on Instagram, Twitter, or on Facebook, and invite your friends to do it too.
